Job Summary

The Registered Nurse (RN) provides comprehensive nursing care to patients transitioning from the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) who require a higher level of monitoring and attention than those on a general medical-surgical unit. Patient populations range from young adult to geriatric. The RN maintains a nurse-to-patient ratio of approximately 1:4 and is responsible for frequent patient assessments, timely recognition of changes in patient condition, and appropriate escalation of care. The RN responds to rapid response and cardiac arrest events and utilizes advanced medical equipment to support patient care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care to step-down/progressive care patients

  • Monitor and manage patients with:

    • Catheters

    • Feeding tubes

    • Tracheostomies

    • Ventilators

    • Cardiac monitors

  • Perform frequent and thorough patient assessments

  • Identify changes in patient condition and escalate care appropriately

  • Respond to rapid response calls and cardiac arrest codes

  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams to ensure optimal patient outcomes

Required Skills & Experience

  • Minimum of two (2) years of:

    • Medical/Surgical Step-Down (SD) experience OR

    • Intensive Care Unit (ICU) experience

  • Minimum of two (2) years of IV insertion and phlebotomy experience

  • Minimum of two (2) years of conscious sedation experience

  • Demonstrated satisfactory completion of age-specific competency requirements

Required Education

  • Associate Degree in Nursing (ASN/ADN) from an accredited nursing program

  • Evidence of graduation from an accredited National League for Nursing (NLN) school

  • Baccalaureate degree in Nursing or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience

Required Certifications & Licensure

  • Current New York State Registered Nurse (RN) License

  • Primary source verification of RN license and registration through the New York State Department of Education (NYSED)

  • AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) certification

  • AHA Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification

Pay Rate
$74.96 - $79.84/hour
