Unit Child Life Specialist
# Beds 50 Bed Peds Unit
Workload "Workload varies depending on needs; typically 15-20 patients
Primary area will be for inpatient PICU & Peds
May be asked to float to other areas to assist such as procedural areas and outpatient clinic settings "

Common diagnoses/Types of patients Neonates & Pediatrics; newoborn to 18 years old
Experience or 'Must have' skills "Must Have: 1 year of experience in speciality
Must be a team player, adaptable, have a positive attitude, and be ready to jump in and assist "
Respondsibilities: "• Provides age appropriate play-based interventions and creates care plans compatible with medical and psychosocial needs.
• Supports the patient's emotional, social, and cognitive growth in the context of family, culture, and development.
• Enhances patient's and family's understanding of medical procedures and diagnosis by facilitating developmentally appropriate
• procedural preparation and support.
• Implements a wide range of recreational events and activities, including coordination of visitors and donations.
• Serves as a resource to hospital staff on issues related to psychosocial developmental needs of pediatric patients.
• Minimizes fears and stress regarding the health experience and fosters coping."

Are there nurse aids on this unit/Ratios "3 Assists that float throughout the different areas.
Job Duties: coordinate volunteers, stock playroom, cuddling with infants, ensuring patients have activities, and more "
Multi-disciplinary team Will be asked to work with the whole interdisciplinary team including physicians, nurses, therapists, case managers, SW, and more
Shifts & Scheduling (Do you allow self-scheduling? Block scheduling?) Can vary depending on open shift; typically 5-8s M-F 8:30-5 OR 4- 10s Fr-M 0730-1800
Weekend Requirements Depends on shift
Holiday Requirements May be asked to go into the Holiday Rotation
Is there call or a standby requirement? None
Floating Requirements May float to NICU, Peds, PICU, procedural areas, and outpatient clinic settings
Scrub Color/Dress Code "Business casual or Scrubs- any color
Must have closed toed shoes "
Unit/Department specific orientation 2 days General Orientation, 1/2 day Epic training, and 4 shifts with a preceptor
Additional Notes The hospital covers a large area, but they aren't a large university system. Children's hospital is located inside a larger hospital.
Pay Rate
$64.47 - $69.35/hour
