Job Description: Sonographer (Ultrasound Technologist)
Position Summary
The Sonographer (Ultrasound Technologist) is responsible for performing diagnostic medical ultrasound examinations to assist physicians in the evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of patients. The role requires strong technical expertise, attention to detail, and a patient-centered approach in a hospital setting.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform a wide range of diagnostic ultrasound procedures (abdominal, OB/GYN, vascular, small parts, and others as assigned)
- Operate and maintain ultrasound equipment safely and effectively
- Prepare patients for procedures and explain the process to ensure comfort and cooperation
- Obtain high-quality images for accurate interpretation by radiologists and physicians
- Document patient history and clinical information relevant to the examination
- Collaborate with physicians, radiologists, and healthcare staff for optimal patient care
- Maintain accurate records and comply with hospital documentation standards
- Follow infection control, safety, and radiation/ultrasound exposure guidelines
- Participate in on-call rotation if required
- Ensure equipment is cleaned, maintained, and reported for service when needed
Required Qualifications
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography or related field
- Certification from ARDMS (American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography) or equivalent (required or eligible)
- Prior clinical experience in a hospital or imaging center preferred
- Strong knowledge of ultrasound physics, anatomy, and medical terminology
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (or willingness to obtain)
Preferred Skills
- Experience in multiple ultrasound specialties (vascular, OB/GYN, echocardiography)
- Strong communication and patient interaction skills
- Ability to work independently in fast-paced clinical environments
- Attention to detail and strong image acquisition skills
- Proficiency with electronic medical records (EMR) systems
Work Environment
- Hospital-based clinical imaging department
- May include evenings, weekends, holidays, and on-call shifts depending on department needs
- Regular interaction with patients of all ages and medical conditions
Pay Rate
$71.69 - $76.57/hour
