Nurse:Patient Ratios 1:2, 1:1 depends on acuity and speciality devices
Required Certifications (i.e., BLS, ACLS?) BLS, ACLS, NIHSS
Common diagnoses/Types of patients "STEMI, NSTEMI, Post Cardiac Arrest, Sepsis, DKA, ETOH Withdrawal, Stroke w/Thrombectomy, Stroke w & w/out TNK, GI bleeds, respiratory failure, COPD, and more
Speciality Devices: IABP, Impella, CRRT- NxtStage, and Zoll Thermo for cooling. Travelers aren't required to have experience with these devices, but if they have prior experience may be asked to take them. "
Experience or 'Must have' skills "For day shift must have at least 1 year of critical care-ICU experience (non PCU)
For Night shift must at least 2 years of critical care-ICU experience (non PCU)
Will accept first-time travelers"
Are RNs required to titrate drips? yes
Common titratable &/or set rate drips All critical drips; Norepinephrine, Epinephrine, Phenylephrine, Nitroglycerin, Diltiazem, Nicardipine, Propofol, Fentanyl, Morphine, Versed, Precedex, Heparin, Insulin, and more
Is there a Charge Nurse on each shift? Does the charge nurse take an assignment? Yes, designated charge who doesn't take a patient assignment unless necessary.
Are there nurse aids/patient care techs on this unit? Ratios? Duties? "Yes—1:8 Ratio, generally 2 per shift
Also have a Tele Tech/HUC for the ICU"
Hospitalist &/or Intensivist in house 24/7? In the ICU 24/7? "Days—Yes
Nights— Tele MD and ""Boot on the Ground"" Physician. This physician covers ICU admissions for multiple campuses- Boise, Meridian, and Nampa. "
RT in ICU 24/7? Yes, must be able to troubleshoot and manage if RT unavailable.
RT Equipment (Vents, Cpap, BiPap, High Flow, etc.) Are RNs required to do anything with these besides trouble shoot? Ventilators, NIPPV machines, CPAP machines, Nitric Oxide
Are there Tele/Monitor Techs on this unit? Are RNs required to read their own strips? What brand are the tele monitors? "Yes—tele tech present—performs 2/3 strips for shift
RNs are required to sign off 2/3 strips done by Tele-Tech & must perform one tele strip of their own.
Currently using SpaceLabs monitors. "
Shifts & Scheduling (Do you allow self-scheduling? Block scheduling?) "Schedule made by management/scheduler; Travelers asked to fill gaps in permanent staffing.Travel staff are schedueld after the core staff schedule is complete.
They try to schedule as fairly as possible.
Will consider block scheduling for night shift. They do not allow 6 shifts in a row (Max of 5 shifts in a row), unless approved by leadership.

Weekend Requirements Typically Every Other Weekend to every third weekend
Holiday Requirements May be asked to go into the Holiday Rotation
Is there a call or standby requirement? No
Floating Requirements "May be asked to float across campuses to Boise (MICU & SICU) & Nampa (ICU).
May be floated to be a PSA (Patient Safety Attendant) on any floor.
Not typically floated down to PCU or MS-Tele unless prior experience or interested.

Floating Notice: Goal is for a 2 hr notice prior to shift start if being asked to float to another facility, however, staff/travelers may be asked to float mid-shift when necessary. Floating is done on a rotational basis.

Meridian to Nampa: 19 min, 14 miles

Meridian to Boise: 21 min, 10.8 miles

Boise to Nampa: 33 min, 22.7 miles"
Scrub Color/Dress Code Any color scrubs
How many shifts of unit/department specific orientation? Hospital-wide orientation provided, then unit on-boarding for our specific ICU, and 1 orientation shift on the floor with a preceptor- will consider 1 extra shift if needed
Additional Notes Have great reviews from past travelers, staff are welcoming to travelers and treat them as part of the team

Pay Rate
$53.01 - $57.89/hour
