Job Description:
POSITION SUMMARY
This position is responsible for providing appropriate technological imaging service within the discipline parameters of magnetic resonance imaging. The person in this position would be required to work unsupervised while maintaining timely and efficient service in an outpatient clinical setting.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Works in conjunction with physician to provide MRI and MRA examinations to assure appropriate and effective care to elicit meaningful diagnostic information.
Clinical and Technical:
a. Know and understand Hospital, Departmental, and examination protocols.
b. Working knowledge of equipment, how to "trouble shoot" equipment, and when repairs are necessary.
c. Know how to do QA on films and on equipment.
d. Know how to schedule examinations. Review daily scheduled exams for corrections/additions/cancellations.
e. Make sure exams are completed to include Teleradiology of films.
f. Proficient in contrast injections.
g. Infection control principles.
h. Problem solving skills.
i. Safety / patient screening as appropriate. MRI Safety Level 2 Trained annually
j. Contrast dosage and administration as appropriate.
k. System applications are utilized appropriately.
3. MRI and MRA studies are performed appropriately.
Responds to patient needs and maintains patient confidentiality.
Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in field of expertise.
Ensures no injuries to self or others by following safe work practices and policies. This includes, but is not limited to: security and safety, understanding of MSDS, equipment, infection control, fire, disaster, safe lifting and body mechanics.
Ensures self-compliance with organization policies and procedures as well as labor agreements.
Ensures the interface with team members and other support groups is conducted in a courteous and efficient manner conducive with the organization’s values.
Conducts self in a professional manner and ensures personal appearance meets the standards necessary to perform the job function while representing the organization.
Ensures that additional accountabilities, as may be required by management, be handled in a manner necessary to meet organizational standards.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The professional in the position reports to the Imaging Director. This position works closely with the Imaging team and other departments in order to provide complete patient care.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
· Education:
a. Associate’s degree in MRI technology or radiography, or an associate degree in a related field, such as biology or anatomy, followed by an MRI tech training program required.
· Certification:
a. Washington State Radiologic Technologists Certification, RT(R)
b. Registered – American Registry of Radiologic Technologists, ARRT(R)
c. Registered – American Registry of Radiologic Technologists, Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MR), and/or Computed Tomography (CT) initially with ARRT (MR) within six (6) months of hire (preferred).
d. CPR certification – Healthcare Provider (HCP) level required within three (3) months of hire.
· Experience:
a. Minimum of two (2) years of Radiology clinical experience in a hospital setting.
· Skills/Competencies:
a. Must know all basic functions of equipment in order to perform exams.
b. Demonstrates competency on equipment listed on department specific checklist.
c. Critical thinking skills: Seeks resources for direction, when necessary. Performs independent problem solving. Decision-making is logical and deliberate.
d. Performs actions that demonstrate accountability. Exercises safe judgment in decision-making. Practices within legal and ethical guidelines.
e. Demonstrates competency in ability to care for customers/patients across the age continuum.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Occasional standing, walking, lifting/pushing (50 lbs), reaching, kneeling, bending, stooping, and pulling.
2. Good reading eyesight.
Ability to communicate using verbal and/or written skills for accurate exchange of information with physicians, nurses, health care professionals, patients and/or family, and the public.
