Position Summary:
We are seeking a qualified American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreter to facilitate effective communication between deaf or hard-of-hearing individuals and hearing individuals in healthcare, educational, or professional settings. The ASL Interpreter will accurately interpret spoken language into American Sign Language and vice versa while maintaining confidentiality, cultural sensitivity, and professional standards.
Key Responsibilities:
• Interpret spoken English into American Sign Language and ASL into spoken English
• Facilitate clear, accurate, and effective communication in assigned settings
• Maintain strict confidentiality and adhere to professional ethical standards
• Prepare for assignments by reviewing relevant terminology and materials
• Adapt interpretation style to meet the communication needs of individuals served
• Work collaboratively with staff, providers, or educators to support communication access
• Maintain neutrality and professionalism during all interactions
• Document services provided as required
• Stay current with ASL language developments and interpreting best practices
Required Qualifications:
• Fluency in American Sign Language and English
• Certification or qualification as an ASL Interpreter preferred (e.g., RID or equivalent)
• Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred in Interpreting or a related field
• Prior experience interpreting in healthcare, educational, or professional settings preferred
• Strong understanding of Deaf culture and communication norms
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries
• Flexibility to work in various environments and schedules as assigned
Pay Rate
$48.88 - $53.76/hour
