Department: Med/Pulmonary | RN
*Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS.*
- # Beds: 38 beds
- Nurse: Patient Ratios: Tele 1:4
- Required certifications: BLS ALCS
- Common diagnoses: Pulmonary med surg unit, vent weaning, hemodynamically stable, chronic vents/ trach vents.
Respiratory, Covid, blood transfusions, restraints, CHF COPD, some post surgical patients, wound care, skin checks,
specialized beds, Infectious disease patients. Long term patient, undocumented, and social work/ placement constraints.
- Experience: Must Have vent and trach experiences, experience with ulcers and comfortable with wound care/ dressing
changes, skin checks. Prefer previous travel experience.
- Are RNs required to titrate drips?: No
- Common titratable: Heparin, if any others would be for comfort measures/terminal extubating- morphine, etc. Start a
levophed in emergencies and transfer to a more critical unit.
- Tele/monitor techs: No Tele, no needs on this unit, patients requiring tele would be transferred out.
- Charge Nurse: Charge RN/ANCC: 2 on days, and 1 on nights. Charge to be patient free and be a resource house wide.
Usually staff 8 floor nurses a shift. Manager to assist if very critical patients.
- Nurse aids: PCTs :about 4 per shift: assist with ADLS, vitals, EKGs etc.
- RT Equipment: Nasal Cannulas, Bipaps, Cpap, high flow, vents, trachs, RT assigned to the floor to maintain, RN to do PRN
nebs.
- Shifts & Scheduling: 7-7:30. Travelers to give availability and they will do their best to accommodate requests, but ask
travelers to stay flexible and fill gaps in permanent scheduling; do not guarantee block scheduling. Excessive call-ins are
taken seriously and could lead to termination.
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend.
- Holiday Requirement: May be asked to go into the Holiday Rotation.
- Is there Call or a Standby requirement? No
- Floating Requirements? 7th floor that is similar to this unit, other MS, tele units within their skillset.
- Scrub Color: Royal Blue
- Unit Specific Orientation: 1 day of unit orientation at minimum, manager to change if more support needed.
