Position Summary:
We are seeking an experienced ASU/PACU Registered Nurse to provide pre-operative and post-anesthesia care for patients undergoing surgical and procedural services. The RN will prepare patients for procedures, monitor recovery from anesthesia, manage pain and nausea, identify complications, and ensure safe discharge or transfer.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform pre-operative assessments and prepare patients for surgery or procedures.
- Verify patient information, procedure, consent, allergies, and required clinical documentation.
- Monitor patients during post-anesthesia recovery, including vital signs, oxygenation, airway, and cardiac status.
- Assess and manage pain, nausea, and other post-operative symptoms.
- Administer medications, IV fluids, and prescribed treatments.
- Monitor patients for anesthesia-related and surgical complications.
- Maintain airway support and respond to respiratory or cardiovascular emergencies.
- Provide post-procedure care and determine readiness for discharge or transfer according to established criteria.
- Educate patients and caregivers regarding medications, wound care, activity restrictions, and discharge instructions.
- Communicate patient status and recovery information during transfers of care.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the EMR.
- Collaborate with anesthesiologists, surgeons, physicians, surgical staff, and other healthcare professionals.
- Follow infection prevention, HIPAA, patient safety, and perioperative care protocols.
Required Qualifications:
- Active, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice.
- ADN or BSN from an accredited nursing program.
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications required.
- Minimum 1 year of recent PACU, ASU, perioperative, critical care, or emergency nursing experience preferred.
- Strong knowledge of post-anesthesia assessment, airway management, pain control, and patient monitoring.
- Excellent clinical judgment, critical-thinking, communication, and prioritization skills.
- Ability to respond effectively to rapidly changing patient conditions.
- Experience with EMR systems preferred.
Preferred Qualifications:
- BSN preferred.
- Previous PACU or Ambulatory Surgery Unit experience.
- Experience caring for patients following general, orthopedic, gynecologic, ENT, or other surgical procedures.
- PALS certification preferred when caring for pediatric patients.
- Experience with moderate sedation and post-procedure monitoring.
- Strong knowledge of discharge criteria and patient education.
- Commitment to safe, compassionate, patient-centered perioperative care.
Pay Rate
$56.66 - $61.53/hour
