Position Summary:

We are seeking a detail-oriented and dependable Sterile Processing Technician (SPT) to support surgical and clinical teams by ensuring the proper decontamination, inspection, assembly, sterilization, storage, and distribution of medical instruments and equipment. The Sterile Processing Technician plays a critical role in infection prevention and patient safety by maintaining compliance with industry standards and ensuring all surgical instruments are prepared for safe patient use.


Key Responsibilities:

• Decontaminate, clean, disinfect, inspect, assemble, package, sterilize, and distribute surgical instruments and medical equipment according to established procedures
• Operate sterilization equipment, including steam sterilizers, low-temperature sterilizers, ultrasonic cleaners, and washer-disinfectors
• Inspect surgical instruments for cleanliness, functionality, and defects; identify instruments requiring repair or replacement
• Assemble instrument trays and procedure packs according to facility specifications and surgeon preference cards
• Monitor sterilization cycles using biological, chemical, and mechanical indicators to ensure sterilization effectiveness
• Maintain accurate documentation of sterilization records, quality assurance activities, and equipment maintenance logs
• Manage inventory of sterile supplies, instruments, and processing materials while ensuring adequate stock levels
• Prepare case carts and distribute sterile supplies to operating rooms and clinical departments in a timely manner
• Follow infection prevention protocols, universal precautions, and regulatory standards, including AAMI, OSHA, CDC, and Joint Commission guidelines
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe sterile processing environment
• Collaborate with surgeons, nurses, surgical technologists, and other healthcare professionals to support efficient surgical operations
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives and continuing education to maintain competency and best practices


Required Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent required
• Completion of a Sterile Processing Technician training program preferred
• Current Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) certification through HSPA (formerly IAHCSMM) preferred/required based on facility requirements
• Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT) certification through CBSPD accepted where applicable
• Current BLS/CPR certification preferred based on facility requirements
• Minimum 1–2 years of recent Sterile Processing Technician experience preferred
• Strong knowledge of sterilization methods, surgical instrumentation, infection prevention, and medical terminology
• Ability to identify surgical instruments and assemble specialty instrument trays accurately
• Excellent organizational, communication, and attention-to-detail skills
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced healthcare environment

Pay Rate
$33.90 - $38.78/hour
