Sterile Processing Technician – Job Description
Job Summary:
We are seeking a dedicated Sterile Processing Technician to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for cleaning, disinfecting, assembling, sterilizing, storing, and distributing surgical instruments, procedure trays, and medical equipment to support patient care and surgical services.
Key Responsibilities:
- Clean, disinfect, inspect, assemble, sterilize, and store surgical instruments and procedure trays.
- Operate and monitor sterilization equipment to ensure compliance with infection control standards.
- Decontaminate instruments and equipment while following Universal Precautions.
- Assemble case carts and deliver sterile supplies, equipment, and instruments to patient care areas.
- Inspect instruments for cleanliness, functionality, and damage before distribution.
- Maintain accurate records for sterilization, instrument tracking, and inventory.
- Report missing, damaged, or replacement instruments and communicate inventory status to the appropriate staff.
- Respond promptly to emergency, trauma, and urgent surgical cases by preparing and delivering required supplies.
- Utilize electronic systems for documentation and recordkeeping in accordance with state and federal regulations.
- Assist with training new staff members as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- May be required to work overtime, weekends, on-call shifts, or float to other departments based on business needs.
Required Qualifications:
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented healthcare environment.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Basic computer skills and the ability to learn sterile processing software.
- Regular on-site attendance and flexibility to work evenings, nights, weekends, and on-call shifts as needed.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience in a hospital or clinic operating room or sterile processing department.
Pay Rate
$42.87 - $47.74/hour
