Position Summary:
We are seeking a detail-oriented Sterile Processing Technician to support surgical and clinical services by cleaning, disinfecting, inspecting, assembling, sterilizing, and distributing medical instruments and equipment. The Sterile Processing Technician plays a vital role in maintaining patient safety by ensuring all instruments meet sterilization and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Clean, decontaminate, inspect, assemble, package, and sterilize surgical instruments and medical equipment.
- Operate sterilization equipment, including steam sterilizers, low-temperature sterilizers, and washer-disinfectors.
- Inspect instruments for cleanliness, functionality, and proper assembly before sterilization.
- Prepare and distribute instrument trays and sterile supplies for surgical and procedural areas.
- Monitor sterilization cycles and maintain accurate documentation and quality assurance records.
- Perform biological, chemical, and mechanical monitoring of sterilization processes.
- Maintain inventory of sterile supplies and notify leadership of shortages or damaged equipment.
- Follow infection prevention protocols, AAMI, OSHA, HIPAA, and facility policies.
- Collaborate with operating room staff, nursing personnel, and other healthcare professionals to ensure timely instrument availability.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and continuing education activities.
Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Current Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) certification through HSPA (formerly IAHCSMM) preferred or required based on facility requirements.
- Minimum 1 year of recent sterile processing experience preferred.
- Knowledge of sterilization methods, surgical instrumentation, infection prevention, and aseptic techniques.
- Ability to identify, assemble, and inspect a wide variety of surgical instruments.
- Strong attention to detail, organizational, and communication skills.
- Experience with instrument tracking systems preferred.
Pay Rate
$35.02 - $39.90/hour
