Position Summary:

We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Registered Nurse (RN) – Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) to provide specialized nursing care for patients recovering from anesthesia following surgical and procedural interventions. The PACU RN will monitor patients during the immediate post-operative period, assess recovery from anesthesia, manage pain and complications, administer medications, and collaborate with surgeons, anesthesia providers, and interdisciplinary teams to ensure safe and effective patient recovery.


Key Responsibilities:

• Provide comprehensive nursing care to patients recovering from anesthesia following surgical and diagnostic procedures
• Perform thorough post-anesthesia assessments, including airway, respiratory, cardiovascular, neurological, and pain evaluations
• Monitor vital signs, oxygen saturation, cardiac rhythms, and patient responses during the recovery phase
• Recognize and respond promptly to post-operative complications, including respiratory distress, bleeding, cardiac events, and adverse reactions to anesthesia
• Administer medications, IV fluids, blood products, and pain management therapies according to physician orders and facility protocols
• Maintain airway patency and provide respiratory support as needed during patient recovery
• Collaborate with anesthesiologists, surgeons, physicians, and interdisciplinary healthcare teams to coordinate patient care
• Educate patients and families regarding post-operative care, pain management, medications, activity restrictions, and discharge instructions
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation of patient assessments, interventions, medications, and recovery progress in electronic medical records (EMR)
• Prepare patients for discharge or transfer to inpatient units by ensuring appropriate recovery criteria are met
• Operate and monitor specialized PACU equipment, including cardiac monitors, pulse oximeters, infusion pumps, and oxygen delivery devices
• Follow infection prevention practices, patient safety standards, and regulatory requirements
• Participate in emergency response situations and provide advanced life support when required
• Support quality improvement initiatives and maintain compliance with perioperative standards of care


Required Qualifications:

• Active, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice
• Associate's Degree in Nursing (ADN) required; Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN) preferred
• Current BLS certification required
• Current ACLS certification required
• PALS certification preferred/required based on facility requirements
• Minimum 1–2 years of recent PACU or critical care nursing experience preferred
• Strong knowledge of post-anesthesia recovery, airway management, pain management, and critical patient assessment
• Excellent clinical judgment, critical-thinking, and emergency response skills
• Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal abilities
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced perioperative environment
• Experience with electronic medical record (EMR) systems preferred

Pay Rate
$54.63 - $59.51/hour
