Position Summary:
We are seeking an experienced Registered Nurse (RN) – Operating Room (Circulator) to provide comprehensive perioperative nursing care before, during, and after surgical procedures. The OR Circulator RN will coordinate patient care, maintain a safe and sterile operating environment, collaborate with the surgical team, and ensure optimal patient outcomes throughout the perioperative experience.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform preoperative patient assessments and verify patient identity, surgical site, and procedure
- Prepare the operating room with necessary equipment, instruments, and supplies
- Function as the circulating nurse during surgical procedures, coordinating activities within the operating room
- Maintain a safe, sterile environment and ensure compliance with aseptic techniques
- Monitor patient condition throughout surgery and communicate changes to the surgical team
- Administer medications, IV fluids, and blood products as prescribed
- Coordinate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, surgical technologists, and other perioperative staff
- Ensure accurate surgical counts of instruments, sponges, and sharps according to policy
- Complete perioperative documentation in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR)
- Assist with patient positioning, specimen handling, and post-anesthesia transfer of care
- Ensure compliance with infection prevention protocols, AORN standards, HIPAA regulations, and facility policies
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and continuing education activities
Required Qualifications:
- Active, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice
- Graduate of an accredited Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program
- Current BLS certification required
- Current ACLS certification preferred or required based on facility requirements
- Minimum 2 years of recent Operating Room circulating experience preferred
- Strong knowledge of perioperative nursing, sterile technique, surgical procedures, and patient safety practices
- Excellent communication, critical-thinking, organizational, and teamwork skills
- Experience with Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems preferred
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred
- CNOR (Certified Nurse Operating Room) certification preferred
- Experience in orthopedic, general, cardiovascular, neurosurgery, vascular, robotics, ENT, gynecology, urology, or trauma surgery
- Previous travel or contract Operating Room nursing experience preferred
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced surgical environment and participate in on-call rotations
- Strong commitment to patient safety and high-quality perioperative care
Pay Rate
$58.18 - $63.06/hour
