Position Summary:
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Orthopedic Surgical Technologist to assist surgeons and the surgical team during orthopedic procedures. The Surgical Technologist will prepare the operating room, maintain a sterile environment, manage surgical instruments and implants, and support safe, efficient, and high-quality patient care throughout the perioperative process.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and organize the operating room with sterile instruments, equipment, implants, and supplies for orthopedic procedures
- Assist surgeons during orthopedic surgeries by anticipating surgical needs and passing instruments, implants, and supplies
- Maintain sterile technique and ensure compliance with aseptic standards throughout surgical procedures
- Perform surgical counts of instruments, sponges, needles, and supplies before, during, and after procedures
- Prepare and handle orthopedic implants, power equipment, drills, saws, and specialized instrumentation
- Assist with patient positioning, skin preparation, draping, and application of tourniquets as directed
- Inspect, clean, and maintain surgical instruments and equipment before and after procedures
- Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, registered nurses, and other perioperative staff to ensure efficient surgical workflow
- Document surgical supplies, implants, specimens, and procedural information accurately
- Adhere to infection prevention protocols, patient safety standards, HIPAA regulations, and operating room policies
- Participate in emergency procedures and maintain readiness for urgent orthopedic cases
- Support quality improvement initiatives and maintain a clean, organized operating room environment
Required Qualifications:
- Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology program
- Current Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) certification preferred or required based on facility requirements
- Current BLS/CPR certification required
- Minimum 1 year of recent orthopedic surgical technology experience preferred
- Strong knowledge of orthopedic surgical procedures, sterile technique, surgical instrumentation, implants, and operating room practices
- Experience with orthopedic power tools, drills, saws, and fixation devices
- Excellent communication, organizational, and critical-thinking skills
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced operating room environment
- Experience with Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems preferred
- Commitment to delivering safe, high-quality, patient-centered surgical care
