Unit: Oncology Nurse Navigator/Nurse Coordinator
Req’d Certs/Credentials - BSN-RN and BLS required, OCN preferred, Must have 3 years of ACUTE ONCOLOGY experience
Must be able to keep up with a High volume and pace. Must be organized, be able to triage and delegate tasks as needed. Use spreadsheets to track patients.
Prefer outpatient and GI experience. But candidates need more than just clinic experience.
Prefer prior nurse navigator or nurse coordinator experience
Providers: 5 Primary GI medical oncologists. 2 radiation oncologists that rotate through. 3-4
surgeons (they have they own coordinator/navigators)
Staff: 3 GI nurse navigators, travelers will not work alone and will have resources
Cases/Ratios: Could have 2-3 or 10 referrals a day but would carry that patient until they were passed off to the next coordinator/phase of care (treatment)
Required treatment: GI Oncology Nurse navigator. First phase for newly diagnosed cancer patients-Follows patient from initial referral till they start treatment. This role schedules appointments (MD appts, coordinate ports, Echos, chemo cycle) reviews charts, determines what imaging is needed/reviews, gaps in documentation, support and coordinate care. Typically patients may see more than 1 provider in a day for appts. Also tumor board, Multi-D (multi-disciplinary) case management, case conference coordination. RN will be patient point of contact/liaison until they are ready for treatment and at that time the Nurse Navigator will pass off that patient to the clinic nurse. Not performing direct patient care, but coordinating care
Common Cases: Newly diagnosed oncology patients specifically with a GI related cancer
Scrubs: Navy Scrubs or Business Casual
Unit/Department Orientation: 1- 2 weeks, patient coordinator and other navigators close by
Pay Rate
$53.07 - $57.95/hour
