The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner is responsible for providing psychiatric evaluations, diagnosis, medication management, and patient education in a collaborative behavioral healthcare environment. This role focuses on whole-person care by addressing the connection between mental health, physical health, trauma, and overall wellness while working closely with a multidisciplinary care team.
Responsibilities
Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations and diagnostic assessments
Diagnose and treat a variety of mental health conditions
Prescribe, monitor, and manage psychiatric medications within scope of practice
Provide ongoing medication management appointments and follow-up care
Educate patients on psychiatric conditions, treatment options, medications, and wellness strategies
Provide supportive counseling and behavioral health interventions related to mental and chronic health conditions
Collaborate with therapists, case managers, and healthcare providers to coordinate patient care
Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation and patient records
Participate in treatment planning, quality improvement initiatives, and care coordination activities
Refer patients to appropriate medical, psychiatric, or community resources as needed
Qualifications
Active Nurse Practitioner license in the State of Illinois required
Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) certification preferred
Experience treating children, adolescents, and adults preferred
Strong knowledge of psychiatric disorders, psychopharmacology, and integrated behavioral healthcare
Excellent clinical, communication, documentation, and interpersonal skills
Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a multidisciplinary team
Schedule
Part-time position
Flexible schedule with daytime, evening, or hybrid work options
Approximately 20 hours per week, based on availability and patient volume
