Position Summary:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and compassionate Phlebotomist to collect blood specimens for laboratory testing while providing excellent patient care. The Phlebotomist will perform venipuncture and capillary collections, accurately label and process specimens, and ensure compliance with safety and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform venipuncture and capillary blood collections on patients of all ages
- Verify patient identity and follow specimen collection protocols
- Label, process, and transport specimens accurately and promptly
- Maintain specimen integrity and ensure proper handling procedures
- Prepare patients for blood draws and explain collection procedures
- Collect and document patient information accurately in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and Laboratory Information System (LIS)
- Maintain inventory of collection supplies and ensure equipment is properly cleaned and maintained
- Follow infection prevention, OSHA, HIPAA, and laboratory safety guidelines
- Collaborate with laboratory personnel, nurses, physicians, and other healthcare professionals
- Provide courteous, professional, and compassionate patient service
- Participate in quality improvement activities and ongoing competency training
Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED required
- Completion of an accredited Phlebotomy training program preferred
- National Phlebotomy certification (ASCP, NHA, AMT, NCCT, or equivalent) preferred or required based on assignment
- Current BLS/CPR certification preferred
- Minimum 1 year of recent phlebotomy experience preferred
- Proficiency in venipuncture, capillary collection, and specimen processing
- Knowledge of laboratory safety standards, infection prevention, and specimen handling procedures
- Experience with Electronic Medical Records (EMR) and Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) preferred
- Excellent communication, organizational, and customer service skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in hospital, outpatient, physician office, or reference laboratory settings
- Experience performing pediatric, geriatric, and difficult blood draws
- Previous travel or contract healthcare experience preferred
- Knowledge of laboratory workflow and specimen processing
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
Pay Rate
$26.17 - $31.05/hour
