Position Summary:
We are seeking a detail-oriented Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) or Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) to perform laboratory testing that supports the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease. The MLS/MLT will analyze patient specimens, operate laboratory equipment, ensure quality control, and maintain accurate laboratory records while adhering to regulatory and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform routine and complex laboratory testing in hematology, chemistry, microbiology, immunology, coagulation, blood bank, and urinalysis
- Collect, process, and analyze patient specimens according to established laboratory procedures
- Operate, calibrate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory instruments and equipment
- Review and verify test results for accuracy before reporting
- Perform quality control and quality assurance procedures to ensure reliable test results
- Maintain accurate laboratory documentation in the Laboratory Information System (LIS) and Electronic Medical Record (EMR)
- Follow laboratory safety protocols, infection prevention guidelines, CLIA, CAP, OSHA, and HIPAA regulations
- Communicate critical values promptly to appropriate healthcare providers
- Assist with inventory management, reagent preparation, and equipment maintenance
- Collaborate with pathologists, physicians, nurses, and other laboratory personnel
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and continuing education activities
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Science or related field (MLS) or Associate degree in Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) from an accredited program
- Active state laboratory license where required
- ASCP, AMT, or equivalent MLS/MLT certification preferred or required based on facility requirements
- Minimum 1 year of recent clinical laboratory experience preferred
- Strong knowledge of laboratory procedures, instrumentation, quality control, and specimen handling
- Experience with Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) and Electronic Medical Records (EMR) preferred
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary healthcare team
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in hospital, reference, or acute care laboratory settings
- Experience performing testing across multiple laboratory departments
- Previous travel or contract laboratory experience preferred
- Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills
- Ability to work rotating shifts, weekends, holidays, and on-call schedules as required
Pay Rate
$45.22 - $50.10/hour
