Position Summary:
We are seeking a detail-oriented Histotechnologist to perform histology procedures that support accurate pathological diagnosis. The Histotechnologist will prepare, process, embed, section, stain, and maintain tissue specimens, including surgical pathology samples, while ensuring compliance with laboratory quality and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Process, embed, section, and stain surgical pathology and biopsy specimens.
- Prepare frozen sections and assist with intraoperative consultations as required.
- Perform routine and special histology stains according to laboratory protocols.
- Ensure accurate specimen identification, labeling, and tracking throughout the testing process.
- Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot histology laboratory equipment.
- Perform quality control procedures and maintain documentation for laboratory compliance.
- Prepare reagents, solutions, and staining materials as required.
- Maintain accurate records using the Laboratory Information System (LIS).
- Collaborate with pathologists, pathology assistants, and laboratory staff to ensure timely specimen processing.
- Follow CLIA, CAP, OSHA, HIPAA, infection prevention, and laboratory safety standards.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and continuing education activities.
Required Qualifications:
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Histotechnology, Biological Sciences, or a related field.
- Active ASCP Histotechnologist (HTL) or Histotechnician (HT) certification preferred or required based on facility requirements.
- Minimum 1 year of recent histology laboratory experience preferred.
- Strong knowledge of tissue processing, embedding, microtomy, staining techniques, and laboratory quality control.
- Experience with Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) preferred.
- Excellent attention to detail, organizational, and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in hospital or reference laboratory histology departments.
- Experience with surgical pathology, frozen sections, immunohistochemistry (IHC), and special stains.
- Previous travel or contract laboratory experience preferred.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work efficiently in a high-volume laboratory environment.
Pay Rate
$37.60 - $42.48/hour
