Position: Surgical Pathology Technician – Histology
According to Penn State Health, the technician is responsible for:
- Assisting with and coordinating Surgical Pathology Gross Room activities.
- Evaluating patient tissue specimens.
- Assisting with or performing gross examination and dissection of tissue.
- Dictating/documenting gross findings.
- Preparing and submitting tissue cassettes for histological processing.
- Ensuring tissue is properly prepared for subsequent histology and microscopic examination.
- Organizing work effectively during both routine and unusual situations.
- Applying knowledge of anatomy and physiology to specimen handling.
Minimum qualifications
Penn State Health lists:
- Associate's degree in a biological science, such as:
- Medical Technology
- Histology
- Cytology
- Certified School of Mortuary Science
- Or an equivalent field
- 3 years of clinical experience
- Some knowledge of anatomy and physiology
- Demonstrated ability to organize and perform work under both routine and unusual circumstances
Pay Rate
$17.00 - $17.00/hour
