Position Summary:
We are seeking a skilled and dependable Phlebotomist to collect blood and other specimens safely and accurately for laboratory testing. The Phlebotomist will ensure proper patient identification, specimen handling, labeling, and documentation while providing a positive patient experience.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform venipuncture and capillary blood collections according to established procedures.
- Verify patient identity and confirm appropriate laboratory orders before collection.
- Explain collection procedures to patients and address questions or concerns.
- Properly label, handle, process, and transport specimens according to laboratory protocols.
- Maintain specimen integrity and follow required collection, storage, and handling procedures.
- Collect specimens from patients of varying ages and medical conditions.
- Monitor patients during and after blood collection and respond appropriately to adverse reactions.
- Maintain accurate documentation in the EMR and laboratory information system.
- Follow infection prevention, safety, HIPAA, and standard precautions.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and properly stocked phlebotomy area.
- Perform routine equipment and supply checks and report issues promptly.
- Communicate effectively with laboratory staff, nurses, physicians, and other healthcare professionals.
Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Completion of an approved phlebotomy training program preferred.
- Previous phlebotomy experience preferred.
- Strong knowledge of venipuncture, capillary collection, specimen handling, and infection prevention.
- Excellent attention to detail and patient-care skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
- Experience with EMR or laboratory information systems preferred.
Preferred Qualifications:
- National Phlebotomy certification preferred.
- Experience in hospital, outpatient laboratory, clinic, or physician office settings.
- Experience collecting difficult or specialized specimens.
- Experience with pediatric and geriatric patients preferred.
- Strong knowledge of specimen requirements and laboratory procedures.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a healthcare team.
- Commitment to accurate, safe, and compassionate patient care.
Pay Rate
$26.17 - $31.05/hour
