Job Description
============
Job Summary:
The OR Tech III performs various duties as a member of the surgical team to ensure a safe and successful operative procedure.

Job Responsibilities:
This position functions under the supervision of a Registered Nurse and directly reports to Surgical Services management.
-It is expected that the ORT III will support system wide and surgical operations initiatives and practices.
-In addition, this person will actively participate in the surgical operations safety plan as outlined.
-The ORT III has accountability for ensuring the operating room and all surgical items meet sterilization criteria.
-This person maintains the sterile field and a safe environment.
-The tech recognizes and addresses sharps and fire safety processes.
-The ORT III prepares the operating room and instruments for the surgical procedure.
-The ORT III may assist with sterile processing.
-This tech will assist the surgeon(s) during the procedure but stays within the ORT I scope of practice.
-The ORT III is able to identify emergency situations and exercise judgement when implementing procedures to respond to emergencies.
-On completion of the procedure, the tech will assist with room turnover, cleaning, and prepare for the next procedure.
-The ORT III is expected to participate in training and mentoring.
-This is separate from the clinical coach role (i.e. students, orderlies, etc.).
-This person will provide or assist with at least one new educational offering per year.
-They will also actively participate in a unit project or have oversight of a process per year as coordinated by the manager.
-For the ORT III that is a service-line specialty lead, they will function in an on-going capacity as designated lead and expert for an assigned specialty area.
-Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
--General oversight of a specialty/specialties.
--Coordinating assignments and ensuring proper staffing assignments are made.
--Responding appropriately to questions and issues.
--Training and validating competency of existing staff.
--Assist with orientation of new hires (May participate as a clinical coach).
-Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients.
-Will also bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment. Typically includes items of varying weights, up to and including heavy items.
-Need to walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and obtaining and distributing supplies and equipment. This includes pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment, including heavy items.
-Often required to navigate crowded and busy rooms (full of equipment, power cords on the floor, etc).
-May be expected to stand in a stationary position with personal protective equipment for an extended period of time.
-Understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergency situations.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
====================
Required Skills & Experience:
-Competent in Basic Procedures and 2 or more specialty areas such as (Ortho, Robotics, Neuro, CV, Trauma, Transplant, Reimplants) and/or facility case mix.
-Able to take assigned call.
-Must be in good standing.
-5000 hours (equal to 2.5 years of full-time) experience in a surgical setting (up to 6 months can be CP experience).
-Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, sterile indicator tags, colors, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies.
-Must be able to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergency situations.
-Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment and instruments with precision and accuracy. This includes computer use and typing for documentation, accessing needed information, medication preparation, etc.

Required Education:
-Completion of accredited surgical technology course or equivalent military training (DD-214).

-NBSTSA or NCCT certification.
-BLS (American Heart Assoc.)

Schedule Notes
============
oShift:
First two weeks – 7a-3p Mon-Fri
Following weeks will be variable 8 – 12hr shifts depending on the week, open availability needed: 7a-3p, 3p-11p or 7a-7p (no graveyard shifts but will be required to take call on nights)
oWeekends: Variable
oOn Call: On call shifts are required with a variable schedule
oExperience/Skills:
Must have at least 1 year of CV experience
CVOR scrubbing experience. Please include Cardio experience in resume/profile.
Proficiency in Endovascular, and thoracic robot a plus
oLicense (one of the following):
NBSTSA or NCCT certification
oBLS (AHA) – Required

$62.48 - $67.36/hour
