Position Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Registered Nurse (RN) – Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) to provide specialized nursing care for critically ill patients with complex cardiovascular conditions. The CVICU RN will care for patients recovering from cardiac and vascular surgeries, manage advanced life-support therapies, and collaborate with the interdisciplinary healthcare team to deliver exceptional patient-centered critical care.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform comprehensive assessments of critically ill cardiovascular patients and develop individualized nursing care plans
- Monitor hemodynamic status, cardiac rhythms, neurological status, respiratory function, and overall patient condition
- Care for patients recovering from open-heart surgery, valve replacement, CABG, vascular procedures, heart failure, and other cardiovascular conditions
- Administer medications, vasoactive drips, IV therapies, blood products, and other prescribed treatments
- Operate and monitor advanced critical care equipment, including ventilators, cardiac monitors, infusion pumps, arterial lines, central venous catheters, and hemodynamic monitoring systems
- Assist with emergency procedures, code blue responses, rapid response events, and bedside interventions
- Monitor laboratory values, diagnostic studies, and patient responses to treatment, reporting significant changes promptly
- Educate patients and families regarding treatment plans, medications, recovery expectations, and discharge planning
- Collaborate with cardiologists, cardiovascular surgeons, intensivists, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, and other healthcare professionals
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation in Electronic Medical Records (EMR)
- Ensure compliance with infection prevention protocols, HIPAA regulations, patient safety standards, and facility policies
- Participate in interdisciplinary rounds, quality improvement initiatives, and continuing education activities
Required Qualifications:
- Active, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice
- Graduate of an accredited Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
- Minimum 1 year of recent CVICU, Cardiac ICU, ICU, or Critical Care nursing experience preferred
- Strong knowledge of cardiovascular critical care, ventilator management, hemodynamic monitoring, cardiac rhythm interpretation, and emergency response protocols
- Excellent critical-thinking, communication, organizational, and clinical decision-making skills
- Experience with Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems preferred
- Ability to work effectively in a high-acuity critical care environment
