Position Summary:
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) – Nursing & Rehabilitation to assist in providing occupational therapy services under the supervision of a licensed Occupational Therapist. The COTA will implement treatment plans, help patients regain independence in activities of daily living (ADLs), improve functional abilities, and support rehabilitation goals in a skilled nursing and rehabilitation setting.
Key Responsibilities:
- Implement occupational therapy treatment plans developed by the supervising Occupational Therapist
- Assist patients with therapeutic activities to improve ADLs, fine motor skills, upper extremity function, coordination, balance, and mobility
- Instruct patients in the use of adaptive equipment and compensatory techniques
- Monitor patient progress and report changes to the supervising Occupational Therapist
- Educate patients and caregivers on home exercise programs, safety techniques, and adaptive strategies
- Maintain accurate treatment documentation in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR)
- Prepare treatment areas and maintain therapy equipment
- Collaborate with physicians, nurses, physical therapists, speech-language pathologists, and other healthcare professionals
- Participate in interdisciplinary care planning and discharge planning
- Ensure compliance with infection prevention protocols, HIPAA regulations, patient safety standards, and facility policies
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and continuing education activities
Required Qualifications:
- Associate degree from an accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant program
- Active, unrestricted Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) license/certification in the state of practice
- Current NBCOT COTA certification where applicable
- Current BLS certification required
- Minimum 1 year of recent COTA experience in rehabilitation, skilled nursing, or post-acute care preferred
- Strong knowledge of occupational therapy techniques, rehabilitation principles, and patient care
- Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
- Experience with Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems preferred
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in skilled nursing facilities (SNF), inpatient rehabilitation, long-term care, transitional care, or acute rehabilitation settings
- Previous travel or contract therapy experience preferred
- Experience treating orthopedic, neurological, geriatric, and post-surgical patients
- Strong teamwork, adaptability, and patient-centered care skills
- Ability to manage a diverse rehabilitation caseload in a fast-paced healthcare environment
Pay Rate
$41.41 - $46.29/hour
