Position Summary:
We are seeking a compassionate and motivated Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) to provide occupational therapy services for patients in an inpatient Medical-Surgical setting under the supervision of a licensed Occupational Therapist. The COTA will implement treatment plans, assist patients in improving functional independence, and support recovery following illness, injury, or surgery.
Key Responsibilities:
- Implement individualized treatment plans developed by the supervising Occupational Therapist.
- Provide therapeutic interventions to improve activities of daily living (ADLs), upper extremity function, coordination, balance, and functional mobility.
- Assist patients recovering from medical illnesses, surgeries, orthopedic injuries, neurological conditions, and other acute diagnoses.
- Train patients in the safe use of adaptive equipment, assistive devices, and energy conservation techniques.
- Monitor patient progress and communicate changes to the supervising Occupational Therapist.
- Educate patients and caregivers on home exercise programs, safety techniques, and adaptive strategies.
- Maintain accurate treatment documentation, progress notes, and patient records in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
- Collaborate with physicians, nurses, physical therapists, speech-language pathologists, case managers, and other healthcare professionals.
- Assist with discharge planning to support a safe transition of care.
- Ensure compliance with infection prevention protocols, HIPAA regulations, patient safety standards, and facility policies.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and continuing education activities.
Required Qualifications:
- Associate degree from an accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant program.
- Active Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) license or certification in the state of practice.
- Current NBCOT COTA certification required.
- Current BLS certification required.
- Minimum 1 year of recent inpatient, acute care, or Medical-Surgical COTA experience preferred.
- Strong knowledge of rehabilitation techniques, adaptive equipment, therapeutic activities, and patient safety practices.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Experience with Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems preferred.
Pay Rate
$34.55 - $39.43/hour
