Position Summary:
We are seeking an experienced Registered Nurse (RN) – Cardiothoracic Operating Room to provide specialized perioperative nursing care for patients undergoing cardiac and thoracic surgical procedures. The RN will serve as the circulating nurse, coordinate surgical care, maintain a sterile environment, and collaborate with surgeons, anesthesia providers, perfusionists, and the surgical team to ensure safe, high-quality patient outcomes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform preoperative patient assessments and verify patient identity, surgical site, and procedure
- Prepare the operating room, surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies for cardiothoracic procedures
- Serve as the circulating nurse during open-heart, vascular, and thoracic surgeries
- Coordinate patient care throughout the surgical procedure while maintaining sterile technique
- Assist with patient positioning, specimen handling, and intraoperative documentation
- Monitor patient status and collaborate with anesthesia providers and the surgical team during procedures
- Perform and verify surgical counts with the surgical technologist
- Ensure availability and proper functioning of specialized cardiothoracic equipment
- Transfer patients safely to the post-anesthesia care unit (PACU) or intensive care unit (ICU)
- Maintain accurate documentation in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR)
- Follow infection prevention protocols, HIPAA regulations, patient safety standards, and facility policies
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and on-call coverage as required
Required Qualifications:
- Active, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice
- Graduate of an accredited Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program
- Current BLS certification required
- Current ACLS certification required
- Minimum 2 years of recent Cardiothoracic or Cardiovascular Operating Room nursing experience preferred
- Strong knowledge of perioperative nursing, sterile technique, cardiac and thoracic surgical procedures, and patient safety
- Excellent communication, critical-thinking, organizational, and interpersonal skills
- Experience with Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems preferred
Pay Rate
$75.71 - $80.59/hour
